Paihalas Brewery Identity
Crafting a distinctive visual identity for a wild ale brewery in Sodankylä
Paihalas is a Sodankylä-based brewery specialising in wild ales — beers shaped by time, nature and experimentation. The brand identity was designed to reflect this avant-garde approach while grounding it in a strong and recognisable visual language rooted in the local culture and nature.
At the centre of the identity is a distinctive hand-drawn “P”, forming the core of the Paihalas logo. The accompanying wordmark was also drawn by hand, creating a balance between a classical brewery aesthetic and a rough, authentic character. The beer label designs feature artwork by the renowned Finnish artist Helena Junttila, whose expressive paintings bring depth and individuality to each product. Together, the classical structure of the brand and the raw, hand-drawn elements translate the experimental spirit of the brewery into a distinctive visual identity.
